Semenggoh Orang Utan Sanctuary
The Semenggoh Wildlife Center is only 40 min south from the Fairview on the road to Serian. There are plenty of Orang Utans in a small area. You can observe them at dayly feeding times in the morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am and 15:00-16:00 pm. Even beside this feeding times you can observe them or do a little walk on one of the quite nice but short trails around the head quarter.
This is a famous sight seeing spot. Bus loads of tourist are brought there by travel agencys every day. These are semi wild Orang Utans, the whole area looks a bit like an open zoo. The orang utans live free but the small surounding forest provides not enough food for 24 of them - so there are depending on the daily feeding times. This is the time you can spot them eating papaya and bananas twice a day.
The Orang Utans come very near, you can take lots of fotos but they are not real wild animals. Please don´t use the flash of your camera, they maybe feel offended. Be also very careful about fallen brunches when you stay beyond these apes.
You can also visit cages with giant softshell turtles and some crocodiles. There is a little shop for drinks and souvenirs in the head quarter.
It is worth to combine Semenggoh with Jongs Crocodile Farm which is near by.
